Note: If a BUGS file is present, apply any patches contained in it! This version of JED requires slang version 1.0 or greater. If you do not have the library, pick up the slang distribution as well and compile it first. It is not needed for the pc (.zip) distribution. jedXXX.zip contains DOS executables (bin/jed*.exe) necessary library files, etc... It does not contain any source code. The source code is available in the .tar.gz file. If you get the .zip file, remember to unzip it using the pkunzip -d option!! If you plan to use the jed.exe executable, available in the .zip distribution, you will need a DPMI server. Windows, QDPMI, 386Max, NWDOS, OS/2, Win/NT, and Linux DOSemu all provide a DPMI server. If you intend to run jed.exe outside one of these environments, pick up the freely availble dpmi server in the csdpmi subdirectory. Note: jed.exe requires a 386+ class machine. The original IBMPC, IBMPC-XT, and IBMPC-AT (286) systems are no longer supported. If you intend to used JED on one of these older systems, use jed098-4.zip in the `OLD' subdirectory.
